The procedure of arranging status in Israel for a foreign spouse is a naturalization procedure / obtaining permanent residency that lasts for years.

A married couple procedure takes four and a half years. After opening the case and submitting all the required documents, the foreign spouse receives a work visa (B / 1) for six months, after which he must stay for four years on a temporary residence visa (A / 5) which gives him all the health and social rights granted to citizens. At the end of the four years, the foreign spouse can obtain Israeli citizenship or permanent residency of his choice.

The procedure for spouses by cohabitation is significantly longer and includes three years of stay in a type B / 1 visa and four years in a type A / 5 visa. At the end of the procedure, the foreign spouse can only receive permanent residency.

The status arranging procedure begins with making an appointment to open the file and submitting documents at the office of the Ministry of the Interior to which you are associated (according to the address that appears on the Israeli’s identity card). You must arrive at the appointment with all the required documents, and among them, emphasis must be placed on several certificates from the spouse’s country of origin: birth certificate, current integrity certificate, and previous and current personal status certificates. All certificates must be original and verified with an apostille stamp / at the Israeli consulate in the country of origin, and if they are not in English, they must be translated by a language notary. Translating them in Israel into Hebrew is preferable; it is also possible to translate abroad, but then the translation must also have an apostille stamp. The list of documents includes many other documents that prove the sincerity of the relationship, etc.

Apart from submitting the documents, the couple also undergoes an interview. Each spouse is asked the same questions individually to see if their answers match. Each year and before the visa extension, the couple must submit up-to-date documents (the documents from the country of origin are submitted only when the case is opened) and undergo an interview.

The procedure itself does not sound complex, but it is possible to fail in each stage out of a lack of understanding or knowledge. This procedure has the power to make fates which unfortunately can be complicated unnecessarily for various reasons. If the Ministry of the Interior decides to stop the process, it will not be easy to get back on track. To ensure that the procedure is as smooth and short as possible, we recommend using our services and receiving close legal assistance, which can save you a lot of heartaches, time, and money.
